Parenting advice has changed a lot over the years. New parents are now surrounded by tips from grandparents, friends, social media, online searches and even AI tools. With so many voices, it can be hard to know what advice to follow, especially when it comes to everyday baby care concerns like nappy rash.
Our new research found that more than 70% of parents received unsolicited advice during their baby’s first year, with half of that advice considered unhelpful. The research also found that 64% of parents felt criticised if they did not follow advice they had been given, and 53% felt judged by their parents for their parenting style.
At the same time, modern parents are finding support in new places. A huge 62% of Gen Z parents and 42% of millennial parents said they use AI programmes, such as ChatGPT, to help with parenting questions. By comparison, just 15% of Gen X parents said the same.
But family advice still matters. The research found that 31% of Gen Z parents are most likely to turn to family members for advice, compared with 22% of millennials and 21% of Gen X parents. It shows what many parents already feel: modern parenting is a mix of family experience, new information and practical solutions that fit real life.
Why parenting advice has changed
Every generation of parents does their best with the guidance, knowledge and products available at the time. Some old-school advice may have been well meant, but today we know more about baby safety, skin health and gentle everyday care.
This is especially true when it comes to nappy rash prevention. Years ago, parents often relied on airing out the skin or applying thick creams after irritation appeared. Today, many parents are looking for gentle, convenient ways to help prevent nappy rash before it starts.
Modern nappy care is not about making parenting more complicated. It is about making small daily routines easier, cleaner and kinder to delicate skin.
What causes nappy rash in babies?
Nappy rash is common, but it can still be uncomfortable for your baby and worrying for you as a parent.
Your baby’s skin is delicate, and the nappy area has a lot to cope with. Moisture, urine, poo, friction from nappies and frequent wiping can all affect the skin barrier. When this barrier becomes weakened, the skin may become red, sore or irritated.
Common causes of nappy rash include:
- prolonged contact with urine or faeces
- excess moisture in the nappy area
- rubbing from nappies or clothing
- frequent wiping or cleansing
- changes in the skin’s natural pH balance
The good news is that nappy rash is often manageable, and gentle prevention can make a real difference.
How to help prevent nappy rash
A simple nappy care routine can help protect your baby’s skin and reduce irritation.
Try to:
- change nappies regularly, especially after a poo
- clean the nappy area gently
- avoid harsh rubbing
- allow the skin a short moment to dry before putting on a fresh nappy
- use gentle products designed for delicate baby skin
For many parents, the challenge is finding something that feels easy to use during real nappy changes, especially when baby is wriggly, you are out and about, or you want to avoid thick, messy creams.
A modern solution for nappy rash prevention

This makes it a practical option for everyday changes, whether you are at home or on the go.
